English Club Montluçon – Special Event

Dear friends,

The English Club is delighted to offer you a visit to a magnificent English Floral Park, the Balaine Arboretum, on Sunday, May 12, 2024, starting with a picnic at 12:30 PM. The picnic will be held in the orangery if it rains. It is located at Château de Balaine, Balaine, 03460 Villeneuve-sur-Allier (D433), GPS coordinates: 46°41’49.20″N/3°14’47.04″E, about 1 hour from Montluçon and Combrailles. The visit can last about maximum 2 hours, but everyone is free to enjoy at their own pace. Visit the website to get an idea; it is beautiful: http://www.arboretum-balaine.com.

An English-style park created in 1804 by Aglaë Adanson.

The oldest private botanical and floral park in France.

Combines the architecture of 19th-century English gardens with collections of exotic species.

Classified as a Historical Monument in 1993. Designated as a Remarkable Garden.

Surrounds a typically Bourbonnais château, still inhabited.

Over 25 hectares: 3,500 species and varieties, planted for over 200 years.

A park where, through the intermingling of conifers and deciduous trees, one might feel transported to the primeval forests of the mountains in southern China. After the picnic, we will visit the park for just over an hour. Please respond before May 1st to let me know if you think you will come or not so we can reserve our entrance. The fee would be 13€ if we are less than 20, to which we would add 60€ shared for a guide.
